Starting out

Never ridden before

CBT motorcycle training (Compulsory Basic Training)

From £159One day

£159 is the price when you use your own motorcycle and gear. If you need to use one of ours, call us and we will price it for you.

CBT is the course almost everyone starts with. It is not a test you pass or fail — it is a day of training, and you finish it when your instructor is satisfied you can ride safely on your own. Most riders complete it in a day.

Who it is for

Anyone starting out on a moped or 125cc — usually your first day on a bike.

What is included

  • All five DVSA elements — the full day is set out below
  • A minimum 2-hour road ride
  • Full DVSA certification (DL196) on completion

Licence rules
You need to be 16 to ride a moped and 17 for a motorcycle up to 125cc and 11kW. Your CBT certificate (DL196) is valid for 2 years.

Pre-CBT taster session

Quoted when you call, and the bike is included.

A gentle introduction before your CBT motorcycle training. If you have never been on a bike, this takes the unknown out of it — you arrive on the day already comfortable with the controls instead of learning everything at once.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants to sit on a bike before committing to a full CBT day.

What is included

  • Getting used to the controls with no pressure
  • A feel for the bike before your CBT day
  • Use of one of our bikes, included
  • Ideal if you are nervous about starting

Getting your licence

CBT done, going further

Direct Access (DAS) — full motorcycle licence course

From £9254 or 5 days

Direct Access takes you from CBT to a full licence in one block of training, with your Module 1 and Module 2 tests at the end. It is the quickest legitimate route to riding any size of bike.

Who it is for

Riders going for a full, unrestricted licence — no engine-size limit afterwards.

What is included

  • Module 1 and Module 2 test training
  • All test fees included
  • Time on the MMA (Motorcycle Manoeuvring Area) — the official test centre exam area
  • Bike provided

Licence rules
Direct Access to a full category A licence is available from age 24. From 21 you can reach the same licence by progressive access, if you have held an A2 licence for at least 2 years.

A1 and A2 licence training

Call for a quote — 07432 482690Built around you

A1 and A2 are the stepping-stone licences. Which one you go for depends on your age and the size of bike you want to ride. We train toward either, including Module 1 and Module 2 preparation, at whatever pace suits you.

Who it is for

Riders aiming for an A1 or A2 licence rather than going straight to full.

What is included

  • Module 1 and Module 2 test preparation
  • Training paced to you, not to a fixed timetable
  • Advice on which licence route actually suits your age and the bike you want

Licence rules
A1 is from age 17 and covers bikes up to 125cc and 11kW. A2 is from age 19 and covers bikes up to 35kW. After 2 years on an A2 you can move up to a full licence by progressive access from age 21.

Module 1 and Module 2 test training

Call for a quote — 07432 482690By arrangement

Module 1 is the off-road manoeuvres; Module 2 is the road ride, around 40 minutes with an examiner. We train for both, including time on the official manoeuvring area so the layout is familiar before test day.

Who it is for

Riders preparing for the practical motorcycle tests.

What is included

  • Module 1 manoeuvres practised on the official MMA layout
  • Module 2 road-ride preparation
  • Realistic feedback on where you actually are

The day itself

What a CBT day looks like

CBT is set by the DVSA as five elements, worked through in order. You are not being tested — you move on when your instructor is happy you are ready, and you finish when you can ride safely on your own.

North Tawton · on-site training
  1. Introduction and eyesight checkWe go through what the day involves and check your eyesight — reading a number plate at the required distance.
  2. On-site trainingThe bike itself, off the road: the controls, how it works, and the basic checks worth making before you ride.
  3. On-site ridingRiding in the yard with no traffic — moving off and stopping, slow control, turns and braking, until it feels natural.
  4. On-road trainingA briefing before you go out: road positioning, speed, other traffic, and the things that most often catch new riders out.
  5. On-road ridingAt least 2 hours out on the road with your instructor. This is the part of the day that turns everything else into actual riding.

Free DVSA resources

If you only hold a provisional licence you need to complete the free RideFree e-learning before your CBT motorcycle training. And if you are still working out which licence route suits you, the DVSA flowchart lays out every path by age and training. Both are free and neither is ours — we would rather you turned up knowing what you are doing.
